Vernon County man sentenced to 30 years behind bars for attempted homicide

The Vernon County man who says he stabbed a woman because he wanted to feel what it was like to kill someone will spend the next three decades behind bars.

24-year-old Shayne Swadley was sentenced to 30 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision Friday after pleading guilty to first degree attempted intentional homicide.

Swadley stabbed Christine Mazilauskas multiple times in the neck, stomach and thigh as she slept while he was high on meth in 2015. Swadley later told police there was no confrontation between the two before the stabbing.

Mazilauskas survived but says she’s still traumatized by the attack.

Prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence Swadley to 20 years in prison, but the judge, comparing Swadley to the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper, opted for a harsher sentence.
