Vernon County law group brings back annual Hunter Safety Rifle Match
WESTBY, Wis. (WKBT) — The Vernon County Law Enforcement Association will bring back its Hunter Safety Rifle Match on Saturday, May 1, at the Westby Rod N Gun Club on County Road P in Timber Coulee.
The association’s 50th annual event, in 2019, drew nearly 100 participants — many of whom took home trophies and prizes. Unfortunately, COVID-19 forced the 51st match to shoot blanks last year, canceling the event.
The association will follow safety protocols, with COVID-19’s continuing influence. The event will not include food, and physical distancing and mask wearing will be encouraged.
The group also expanded the participation age from 15 to 16 to allow those who would have been 15 in 2020 to participate.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., with shooting matches beginning at 8 a.m. Any Vernon County youths ages 10-16 who have completed their hunters safety training or has taken the training with a Vernon County instructor can participate.
More information is available on the association’s Facebook page.
