Update: Vehicle overturned on Hwy. 35 under Hwy. 53 near Holmen
HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) — A Hilltopper Refuse truck flipped on its side Thursday morning causing Hwy. 35 to be closed until 1:35 p.m., according to Holmen Police Department.
Holmen police responded to a report of an overturned truck at 10:14 a.m. under the Hwy. 53 interchange south of Holmen. Police say the refuse truck was traveling north on Hwy. 35 when the driver failed to retract the extended rails for a rollback container and struck the overpass. The driver was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The road re-opened at 1:35 p.m. after the guardrail was repaired and the bridge was inspected.
Holmen Area Fire Department, La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department, Onalaska Police Department, Tri-State Ambulance and La Crosse County Highway Department also responded to the incident.
Holmen police noted that rumors that a truck had driven off Hwy. 53 are inaccurate.
