UWL, Western partner to provide learning materials for Afghan students at Fort McCoy
The donation is thanks in part to a donation from National Geographic
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — UW-La Crosse and Western Technical College are providing learning materials for Afghan evacuees staying at Fort McCoy.
A donation from National Geographic helped provide hundreds of student workbooks, CDs and DVDs.
The donation will help the students learn English as they prepare to move away from the Monroe County military installation.
The materials aren’t just for children.
“They’re also wonderful at a variety of age levels,” said Heather Lindbill, an associate educational studies professor at UW-La Crosse. “Young children that are just starting with language — you can see they are very engaging, beautiful. But also adults who may have not had as much schooling.”
Western and UWL students and staff also are helping teach at Fort McCoy.
