UWL students spread message of compassion on campus

UW-La Crosse student vanguards helped spread the message of unity to future students Wednesday.

The vanguards gave tours in their orange compassion t-shirts throughout the day.

One of the vanguards shared her own story of compassion after graduating military school and  transitioning back into campus life. She shared her experience with a professor who took time to let her know she wasn’t alone.

“She emailed me just asking me how my transition was going, asking me if she could help in any way, and just checking and making sure I was still ok, just trying to figure that out. That was just really cool for me  to experience, even in my upper level classes that a professor cares that much about her students and that she shows compassion towards us,” said Dani Berny, a vanguard at the school.

The vanguards describe themselves as the face of the school, and say wearing the shirts show future students compassion lives on campus.
