UWL H.O.P.E. hosts biannual conference to discuss diversity in education
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Local students met Saturday to discuss the importance of incorporating different cultures in education. H.O.P.E., or the Hmong Organization Promoting Education, hosted their bi-annual conference Saturday to talk about Hmong studies.
The organization’s aim is to change education to fit more perspectives.
Members of H.O.P.E. say education has become whitewashed, and the goal is to share their point of view.
“It’s something that’s reflective of the Hmong community. It emphasizes on our language and the importance of it. And also it’s history through our perspective,” said UW-La Crosse student Charlie Yang.
For more information contact H.O.P.E. at firstname.lastname@example.org. They also hold meetings every Monday at 6 p.m. in Centennial Hall room 2212.
