UWL gymnasts teach skills to Hamilton Elementary students
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Kids at Hamilton Elementary are getting gymnastics lessons thanks to volunteers.
The UW-La Crosse gymnastics team has been coming to the school for the past few weeks to teach kids basic skills.
Last year, the kids at Hamilton said in a survey that they want to learn gymnastics at school.
The head coach of the university’s team, Kasey Crawford, says those skills aren’t only for the kids who want to stick with the sport.
“It develops your whole body: mental, physical, everything, whatever sport you want to do in life,” says Crawford. “Gymnastics is the beginning, it just gives you body control and confidence, and so that’s why we wanted to get kids to have that experience.”
The visits from the team are a part of Hamilton’s Community School Program, where the school brings in local organizations to provide resources to kids and families.
