UWL gymnastics team surprises 9-year-old Holmen fire victim with new leotard
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — It’s been almost a month since more than a dozen people lost everything in an apartment fire in Holmen.
The UW-La Crosse Gymnastics team is stepping up to help one of the youngest victims of the fire who has a shared interest.
Nine-year-old Nadia Trapnell is an aspiring gymnast herself, taking classes at the Y — but she lost all of her gymnastics gear in the fire.
When UWL Gymnastics coach Kasey Crawford heard about her, she invited Nadia to hang out with the team at practice, where she got a big surprise Thursday.
“She lost all of her belongings in the fire, and so we wanted to give her a leotard, because she’s a gymnast, so that’s just something personal we could do,” said Crawford.
Nadia also got a poster signed by all of the members of the team, a bracelet with the team’s motto, and a UWL gymnastics t-shirt. She’s also being invited to be a part of UWL’s next gymnastics meet on Friday night.
