UWL football releases 2020 fall schedule

UW-La Crosse released its 2020 football schedule on Friday afternoon.

The Eagles will play 10 games, the first being Saturday, Sept. 5 at Concordia College (Minn.) at 1 p.m. The Eagles beat the Cobbers in overtime to open this past season.

Sept. 12 the Eagles will visit the University of Dubuque, who went 7-3 a year ago.

The Eagles’ first home game is Sept. 19 against NAIA school Dakota State University. The school is part of the North Star Athletic Association, the same conference as Viterbo University.

“We have a challenging non-conference schedule that we hope will prepare us for our conference slate,” said first-year head coach Matt Janus, per an official press release. “We open with Concordia-Moorhead and we know how exciting that overtime game was last year. We then go to the University of Dubuque who is year in and year out a perennial contender in the American Rivers Conference and will be a well-coached team. We round out the non-conference schedule with Dakota State, who we know plays in a great NAIA conference and will be an excellent test for us.”

After a bye week, UWL opens WIAC play at home Oct. 3 against UW-Stevens Point, then goes on the road against UW-Stout Oct. 10, followed by a home contest against UW-Whitewater Oct. 17.

The Eagles will then go back on the road for games against UW-Oshkosh and then UW-Eau Claire on Halloween night. The team will finish the regular season with home games against UW-River Falls and UW-Platteville.
