UWL athletics, city parks department teams up for Building Champions Trail
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — UWL’s athletics department is teaming up with area businesses and the city’s Parks and Rec department for a new educational hiking trail.
They dodged rain showers this afternoon to officially open the Building Champions Trail in the Upper Hixon Forest.
The trail stretches for more than 2 miles and includes a mile-long educational loop, allowing hikers to learn more about the surrounding environment.
City park superintendent Jay Odegaard says his department looks forward to teaming up with the university more in the future.
“The opportunities are endless up here, really, and there’s a lot of things that we would like to do, and fortunately the city of La Crosse is behind that movement and now to partner up with an organization like UWL really just strengthens that goal,” said Odegaard.
Ten businesses worked with the university and the city to make the trail possible.
