UW medical school campus in La Crosse changing name to recognize Gundersen Health System
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A medical training campus in La Crosse will now show the impact a local hospital has on teaching the next generation.
The UW School of Medicine and Public Health is renaming its western campus in La Crosse to “Gundersen Health System Western Academic Campus.”
The Dean of the UW school says the new name recognizes Gundersen’s role in teaching young doctors. He says about a thousand of the school’s students over the last decade have chosen to complete their education with Gundersen.
“It’s, of course, a wonderful place to get patient care. We really are very respectful and appreciative of the clinical outcomes. But beyond that, the very busy doctors here are also dedicated teachers that serve as wonderful role models for the next generation,” UW School of Medicine and Public Health Dean Dr. Robert Golden.
The UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s La Crosse campus is located near the Gundersen Health System’s grounds.
