UW-La Crosse to host Midwest Regional of NCAA Div. III baseball tournament
Midwest Regional of 2015 tournament to be played at Copeland Park
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — UW-La Crosse is announcing that it will be one of eight schools to host a regional in the 2015 NCAA Division III baseball tournament.
UW-L will host the Midwest regional, taking place May 13-17 at Copeland Park in La Crosse. The double-elimination regional will feature six or eight teams, with the winner advancing to the Division III Championships at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute, Wisconsin.
It’s the first time the school has hosted the regional.
“We are very excited to be able to provide this opportunity for our student-athletes, our campus and our community,” said Interim UW-La Crosse Director of Athletics Kim Blum in a statement released by the school.
The UW-La Crosse baseball program has recently seen success on the field, and will now have a unique opportunity this spring.
“We have worked very hard to make appearances in the NCAA postseason two of the last three years, and are looking forward to competing for a spot in the tournament on our home field,” UW-La Crosse baseball coach Chris Schwarz said in a statement.
The Eagles made the NCAA tournament last season, earning an at-large bid to the Midwest Regional hosted at UW-Whitewater. They also made the Midwest Regional in 2012 after winning the WIAC tournament.
