UW-La Crosse students learn efficient transportation through new class

First year of Sustainable Transportation course

A new university class is highlighting sustainable transportation in La Crosse.

Students of the new UW-La Crosse course took bike tours Wednesday of bike paths and lanes, neighborhood greenways, and pedestrian and transit infrastructure. The outing gives environmental studies students the chance to apply their class work in the field.

The professor teaching the class says La Crosse is a good place to discuss efficient transportation, especially as the community continues discussing traffic congestion.

“Particularly, this class is looking at how we can improve our efficiency at using the system we already have, not necessarily building more at great expense,” said UW-La Crosse Associate Professor of History James Longhurst.

This was the first time UW-La Crosse has offered the Sustainable Transportation course.
