UW-La Crosse student prepares for World Powerlifting championships
Andy Askow hopes to break world record total, world record squat
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A UW-La Crosse student will represent Team USA in the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Championships in Finland.
Andy Askow hopes to break the world record total and the world record squat. He wants to squat 800 lbs.
“Back in 2012, it was the same competition [in Poland]. I was in a different age category. To me, this one is different because then I was ranked coming in as third, so it was kinda like a hold the podium spot. Now it’s kind of fight off everyone for the gold,” Askow told News 8.
He’s been powerlifting for about ten years and plans to keep going.
“It’s kind of the idea that I get to better myself every day. I can come into the gym and work harder. I can always be stronger and there’s no limit to that.”
The IPF Classic Powerlifting World Championships runs from June 5-14 in Salo, Finland. Click for the schedule of events.
