UW-La Crosse prepares for enrollment concerns in the future

Number of births declining leading to enrollment worries in La Crosse, nationwide

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Declining enrollment is a concern for universities across the U.S and a local university is planning for their future.

UW-La Crosse now has a long-term enrollment task force to look at how the university can change to attract students.

The task force will focus on understanding what programs and services the incoming students will need.

The number of births in the U.S. has been declining for most of the past decade according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

UWL Chancellor Joe Gow says the university is starting the process in a good place.

“I think it’s going to be a question of more effectively telling that story and getting out and recruiting more students when we have those demographic changes,” said UW-La Crosse Chancellor Joe Gow.

The importance of projects like phase two of the Prairie Springs Science Center will also be addressed as part of the process.
