UW-La Crosse football caps 7-3 season with 34-17 win at UW-Stevens Point

UW-La Crosse football finishes the season with a 34-17 win on the road against UW-Stevens Point Saturday. The Eagles finish the year 7-3 and are still a long shot to make the Division III playoffs that will be announced Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

This is UWL’s third consecutive year with at least seven regular-season wins under head coach Mike Schmidt. UWL is 22-8 over the last three years.

It was an impressive year for the Eagles offense. Sophomore quarterback Evan Lewandowski finishes the regular season with a school record 28 passing touchdowns and 2,804 yards. Lewandowski breaks Craig Kusick’s school record of 25 touchdown passes in 1994 and Tarek Yaeggi’s school record of 2,724 passing yards in 2016. Lewandowski also has 2,857 total yards of offense this year, second in single-season UWL history. Yaeggi had 2,896 yards in 2016, according to UW-La Crosse athletics.

Senior wide receiver Cole Spieker ends the regular-season with a school record 83 catches, breaking Nick Holcomb’s record of 80 set in 2017. His 1,216 receiving yards this year ranks second in school history. Holcomb finished with 1,401 yards in 2017.
