UW-L student sentenced for sexual assault of classmate

LA CROSSE, Wis. — It’s been almost one year since two UW-L students were charged with sexually assaulting a classmate.  Monday, one of those students learned his fate.

19 year old Casey Gudis pleaded no contest to the three different charges.  Prosecutors say he and fellow student Brayden Wienke pinned the victim to a dorm room bed and assaulted him with an object.

As part of a plea agreement, Gudis will serve up to 6 months in jail followed by two years of probation.  He’ll also have to pay restitution to the victim.

Gudis apologized in court for his role in the assault.  “I realize now the severity of this offense in what I have done and I’m sorry for what I have done.  And, someday I hope he can forgive me and I’m sorry,” says Gudis.

The other person charged in the case, Brayden Wienke, is set to go to court in November.
