Upward Climb: Catbird Wrestling eyes another Coulee title

The Coulee Region has seen a few Division 2 wrestling teams reach Team State the last few years, and West Salem/Bangor wrestling, with their numbers and culture trending upward, may not be far behind.

The Catbirds had a break-through last year winning conference, and they’re undefeated in Coulee duals this year.

Leading the way is Bangor senior Evan Wolfe, ranked fourth in his weight class and a hundred career wins. He says his season hasn’t been perfect, but he makes sure to lead by example.

“I’ve run into a few hammers where I’ve been reality-checked and I have to work harder, but we’re getting there,” Wolfe said.

“His greatest asset hasn’t even been on the mat,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “It’s been his leadership. He does everything right. He’s everything you could ask for as a coach, as a leader. He sets the stage. Everybody knows that if Evan’s doing it, we’ve got to be doing it too.”

The Catbirds next dual Arcadia on Friday.
