Update: Suspect in fatal shooting arrested, victim identified

La Crosse Police arrest suspect after four-hour standoff

La Crosse police say they have arrested 18-year-old Deshawn M. Randall after a four-hour standoff.

Randall was identified earlier Friday as the suspect in a fatal shooting on the 1300 block of Redfield Street that left one person dead. The La Crosse Police Department identified the victim as 17-year-old La Crosse resident George Miller on Sunday.

A heavy police presence gathered on the 900 block of Denton Street on the south side of La Crosse at about 7 p.m. Friday. Lt. Pat Hogan of the La Crosse Police Department says they received credible information that Randall was inside.

Police put up barricades and police tape to block the surrounding streets from traffic. They also evacuated residents from homes within a one block radius of the area as a precaution. The Red Cross is assisting those families that were displaced.

Police also shut off the power to the block during the standoff.
