UPDATE: State employee identified in accidental death at Volk Field
CAMP DOUGLAS, Wis. (WKBT) — The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs (DMA) released the name of the state employee that died at Volk Field Monday.
Nicholas Janz, a facility maintenance specialist at the Volk Field Combat Readiness Training Center, died while performing his duties at the base yesterday.
DMA spokeswoman Jackie Halverson said in a telephone interview Janz was replacing lightbulbs on a runway when he touched what Halverson called a “live electrical source.”
Janz, 40, was pronounced dead at approximately 11 a.m. on July 1 by the Tomah Memorial medical control officer.
DMA is working with local and state officials to review the details of the accident.
Janz had been employed at DMA since 2010. He lived in Warrens with his wife and three children.
