UPDATE: Rose Street fire was condemned property
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A structure fire Wednesday morning at 327 Rose Street involved a known abandoned, condemned property with possible transient residents, according to the La Crosse Fire Department.
When fire crews arrived they found heavy smoke and fire in the detached garage at the rear of the property. The fire moved to the back entrance of the residence where crews brought it under control. The abandoned home was searched and found to be vacant.
Neighboring properties were protected and residents were sheltered in place.
Traffic to Rose Street was shut down during fire operations.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The La Crosse Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the La Crosse Police Department, XCEL Energy, Tri-State Ambulance, La Crosse Street Department and the La Crosse Water Department.
