Upcoming event recognizes leaders in our community

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) People are joining together to celebrate a historic American figure and honor those who have walked in his footsteps.

The 2020 Martin Luther King Junior Leadership Award recognizes a person in our area that has contributed to creating a diverse community and empowering others.

This year Tracy Littlejohn will be receiving the award for her work to educate others about racism and oppression of Indigenous people.

She has shown her commitment to the community through conducting workshops geared toward racial issues and serving on several committees and boards.

Last year’s award recipient says this award honors all those who fight for our community.

“All of us are constantly reminded of how we have to have moments where we come together as a community, and stand together, and fight for what’s just,” said Shaundel Spivey, College Connection Manager at Western Technical College.

The event will take place at the Viterbo University Fine Arts Center on Monday, January 20th at 7 PM.

Admission is free.
