Unique UWL event aims to help students quit smoking ‘cold turkey’

UW-La Crosse is trying to help students stop smoking ‘cold turkey’ with a fun event on campus.

Students gathered at Wittich Field Thursday to try their hand at ‘turkey bowling’ using frozen turkeys as bowling balls.

The event was organized as part of the Great American Smokeout which is held on the third Thursday of November every year.

Not only do organizers hope to get students to stop smoking, but they also want to keep them from starting in the first place.

“It’s really important because we know that 99% of people start to smoke before the age of 26, so it’s important to really educate our campus population,” said Morgan Drexler.

The event also collected canned goods for UWL’s food pantry.
