Two motorcyclists injured in Vernon County crash

TOWN OF JEFFERSON, Wis. (WKBT) — Two motorcyclists were injured after a man lost control and crossed the center line into the path of a pick-up truck, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.

Darren Almquist, 60, Wind Lake, Wis., and his wife, Joan Almquist, 60, were riding a motorcycle Friday afternoon on Hwy. B in the town of Jefferson in Vernon County when Darren Almquist failed to navigate a sharp curve and lost control, according to investigators.

The Almquists’ motorcycle crossed the centerline into the path of a southbound pick-up truck driven by Steven Zanter, 52, Viroqua.

Darren Almquist was not wearing a helmet. Joan Almquist was wearing a helmet. Zanter was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The Almquists were both transported to Gundersen Health System by Tri-State Ambulance.
