Two La Crosse businesses receive Travel Green Wisconsin awards for green practices

A pair of La Crosse businesses are being awarded for their focus on conserving our environment.

The Mint, a La Crosse restaurant, and Global Grounds Coffee both received the ‘Travel Green Wisconsin’ award Wednesday. The Wisconsin Department of Tourism hands the award out to companies that commit to environmental sustainability.

Both companies received the award for their green practices such as recycling, composting, and using local products. The co-owners of both companies say some of those practices can be more expensive but it’s often worth the cost.

“For example, supporting smaller businesses, local farmers, sometimes can cost a little more but I think the benefits are the quality outweigh it,” said Global Grounds Coffee Co-Owner Catherine Tyink.

The Travel Green Wisconsin program promotes environmentally-friendly practices in the tourism industry.
