‘Two-a-days’: The 2015 Westby Norsemen

Season Opener: Aug. 21 at Whitehall

The Norsemen look to follow-up a strong 2014 season (7-3) which they started with seven straight victories. Star running back Travis Hofslien is paired with an inexperienced offensive line alongside quarterback Shane Gran.

Head coach Andy Hulst is entering his second season, and the focus of the offense once again remains running the football.

Undoubtedly the most important player for Westby this fall is senior Shane Gran. Gran is in charge of protecting the football on offense, and leading an inexperienced group on defense.

“Our defense was decent last year,” said Gran. “I think we can get better than that. It is definitely going to take everyone needing to want it. Everyone has to work hard everyday and get better everyday. If we do that, then when playoffs come we can really have a full force.”

The Norsemen lost seven starters on defense from 2014, and schematically Gran will again be the team’s voice of reason on the field.

“He is kind of the quarterback on not only the offense, but on the defensive side of the ball too,” said Hulst. “He can help get guys lined up where they should be. As a unit our defense I think should be pretty solid. We have a lot of good athletes that can run and can hit.”

Westby opens their season Friday, Aug. 21 in Whitehall.
