‘Two-a-days’: The 2015 Viroqua Blackhawks
Season Opener: Aug. 21 vs. Cuba City
VIROQUA, Wis (WKBT) — What a difference a year can make. This time last summer, the Viroqua Blackhawks were scrambling to find a varsity head coach. This time around, the team is focused on revamping an offense that struggled in head coach Bill Hannah’s first year in charge.
“Well, we were in the shotgun last year so now we are trying to run a little more option offense out of it, said Hannah.” “Trying to get our athletes out and space and play a little bit more.”
Numbers are up in year two under Hannah, and senior quarterback/linebacker Kody Sloane will be in charge of installing and operating an option attack on offense.
“It is not black and white,” said Sloane. “There is a lot more to think about in the option, a lot more chance of a mistake early on in the option.”
Outside of a new offense, Hannah sees the growth from year one to two as the most positive sign for the program.
“We had a good season last year, not necessarily with wins and losses, but we competed and I think a lot of kids watched us play last year and said ‘Hey I want to be a part of that.”
Viroqua opens the season Friday, Aug. 21 at home against Cuba City.
