‘Two-a-days’: The 2015 Independence/Gilmanton Indees

Independence/Gilmanton is coming off a terrific 2014 campaign. They finished with an overall record of 8-4. A 6-1 mark in conference gave them a share of the Dairyland championship.

Last year’s team played up to the preseason expectations.

“I don’t want to say that last year’s team didn’t have to work as hard but they were ready,” said senior lineman Justin Gierok.

“Now this year we all have to give 100-percent every single practice because if one kid slacks off we’re not going to be ready for that week. Everyone has to put in the effort, we’re kind of low on depth so we’ve got to roll.”

Less room for error in 2015 comes on the heels of losing a season class of 14 strong to graduation. The Indees enter the year with just two returning starters on both sides of the football.

“That’s a big hit,” said head coach John Zilla. “The Justin Gierok’s, the Alex Grulkowski’s just tremendous leadership and showing the young guys the ropes. Last year’s seniors were just a tremendous group and they instilled that leadership and it’s carried over into this year.”
