‘Two-a-days’: The 2015 De Soto Pirates

Season Opener: Aug. 21 vs. Brookwood

For the past 19 years in De Soto, Wisconsin, one thing has remained constant: playoff football.

With the streak at 18 straight last season, the Pirates needed a week 9 win to sneak into the postseason and keep the run alive. As exciting as that win was, the drama and desperation is not a part of the plan in 2015.

“The community is behind the program,” said head coach Ev Wick. “It is good the kids know that too. They also know if things are not going as well they will hear it from them, and that is a good pressure.”

A new weight room along with the return of a strong junior class has the Pirates champing at the bit to erase a 4-6 mark in 2014.

“I think we are a lot more experienced than last year,” said offensive lineman Jakob Hensley. “The attitude is very good and everyone is positive right now. Guys are moving fast and flying around at practice. It has been a really good showing so far.”

De Soto begins the year on their home field Aug. 21 against Brookwood.
