Turkey Trot spreads holiday cheer while raising money

More than 2,000 runners and walkers joined in for the 10th annual Festival Foods Turkey Trot in Onalaska Thursday.

They could choose between a 5-mile run, 2-mile walk or 2-mile dog jog.

The Turkey Trot raises money for local YMCAs and the Boys & Girls Club.

“We’re able to work with them. We do all the planning, and they have a big hand in getting all the volunteers together, assisting with all the packet pickup and T-shirt pickup and everything else, and the proceeds go right back to them, and we’re really excited about that,” local race director Jessica Robey said. “As much as this event grows, the more money we raise for them.”

The Festival Foods Turkey Trot took place in nine other communities across the state.

Over the past nine years, the events have raised nearly $2 million.
