Trump tweets ‘Strong Endorsement’ of Minnesota’s Paulsen
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — President Donald Trump has endorsed U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen of Minnesota, who’s seen as one of the most endangered Republican incumbents in Congress.
In a tweet Tuesday, Trump says Paulsen “has done a fantastic job in cutting Taxes and Job Killing Regulations.” He calls Paulsen “Hard working and very smart.” And he says Paulsen has his “Strong Endorsement.”
Trump’s tweet comes despite Paulsen keeping his distance. Paulsen skipped Trump’s recent rally in Rochester, as well as his rally this summer in Duluth. And Paulsen has said he wrote in Marco Rubio’s name in 2016 instead of voting for Trump.
White House officials have said that GOP candidates who try to distance themselves from the president are only doing themselves harm in the upcoming midterm elections.
