Tri-State celebrates half a century of service in the community

Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance held an open house Saturday for its 50 th anniversary of serving our area.

People could visit Tri-State’s operations and communications center on Causeway Blvd., off of Copeland Ave.

Visitors could talk with staff, take tours of the center and explore modern and old-model ambulances.

A 50-year timeline showed the advancements the organization has gone through over the years.

“We’re very fortunate. And when we’ve given some tours to the former medics or the former administrators they’ve come through and said, ‘you guys don’t know how good you have it.’ So, it gives us perspective on what, maybe, we took for granted,” said Crystal Wallin, a paramedic with Tri-State Ambulance.

Wallin said paramedics were pioneering their field in the 70s and 80s, and that they couldn’t be the organization they are today without the hard work of the paramedics who paved the way for them.
