Trempealeau Co. man charged with sexually assaulting children
INDEPENDENCE, Wis. (WKBT) — A Trempealeau County man is charged with three Counts of First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, Repeated Acts of Sexual Assault of the Same Child, and other related charges.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced the charges Tuesday against James P. Killian Sr., 59, of Independence.
Killian was prosecuted by the former Trempealeau Co. district attorney for related charges in 2015 and 2016 involving the same victims, and the case ended in a mistrial and a court ordered dismissal of the charges with prejudice, meaning the charges could not be brought back up.
The Trempealeau Co. D.A. then asked the DOJ to take and review the case. DCI investigated and DOJ identified chargeable sexual assault crimes disclosed but not covered by or charged in the first prosecution.
Killian was arrested Sept. 27 and booked in the Trempealeau Co. Jail.
