Trane Company to lay off about 100 employees at La Crosse plant

Trane and Chart plan renovation and expansion

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The Trane Company will lay off about 100 hourly production employees at its commercial HVAC plant in La Crosse, effective July 13.

The decision is a result of an ongoing review of business and customer needs in an effort to be as competitive as possible in Trane’s markets, according to a company representative.

Trane employs more than 1,600 workers in the La Crosse area.

When asked whether the COVID-19 pandemic affected the layoff decision, the representative responded, “The coronavirus pandemic has had widespread impact on economies around the world, which has affected many businesses and industries in different ways. As a result, we are taking measures in response to expected production needs in the near-term for our La Crosse-made products.”
