Town of Campbell Fire Department educates students about fire safety

TOWN OF CAMPBELL, Wis. (WKBT) – For the 15th year, the Town of Campbell Fire Department brought fire prevention education to students at Summit Elementary.

Kids got to see firefighters’ gear and emergency vehicles.

They also had fun using a fire hose.

These are things that children might now see unless they’re involved in an emergency situation.

“Probably the most important thing is: they’re getting to know us, they see us, we’re bringing gear out that they would see on a fire scene or in an emergency where it may happen at their house,” says Public Fire Education Coordinator Jeff Nylander.

The theme for the lessons this year revolves around the sounds of fire.

Firefighters are helping get those kids comfortable with the sound of their voices through masks, as well as the sounds of fire engines.

Nylander says there are firefighters currently in the Campbell Fire Department that remember learning from firefighters while they were students years ago.
