Tomah VA, Fort McCoy team up for Memorial Day 5K
TOMAH, Wis. (WKBT) — As we get closer to Memorial Day, those who are serving our country are honoring those who came before them in a unique way.
The Tomah VA Medical Center hosted a 5K run/1 mile walk Thursday morning.
Members of a unit based out of Fort McCoy joined veterans, their families and others in the run.
The officer in charge, Captain Chafac Mofor, says they thought the run would be a good way to take some time to reflect on those who lost their lives while serving.
“(It’s) an incredible opportunity, I would say, especially in memory, recognition of our heroes, those who have gone before us, those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation, and that fought the wars and that died for us so we come out here to showcase our support for them,” said Capt. Mofor.
About 150 people took part in the run this morning.
