Timberwolves on Top: Tomah Softball’s record-setting rise in MVC
Tomah softball officially clinched the MVC Title with a win over Sparta Tuesday night, making it two straight seasons the program has won conference.
These last two seasons have featured a ton of record-breaking performances. They’ve scored a record 141 runs while allowing a record-low 27 runs to MVC teams.
They went 11-1 in MVC, the best conference record they’ve ever finished with, and are 21-3 against conference teams dating back to last year.
It’s a young team this season, but sophomore standout pitcher Maddie Johnson plays like a veteran, and the girls as a whole credit last year’s seniors and the coaches for shaping a winning culture that they can take even further.
“The seniors we lost last year made a pretty big indent on our team this year but also really framed a majority of us who played with them to just have a really competitive mindset,” senior outfielder Lexi Hagen said, “so I think we came in this year I wouldn’t say expecting to win but we were defiantly here to work hard and win.”
