Thunderbirds to perform at Deke Slayton Airfest 2015
Performances scheduled for August 8, 9
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will return to La Crosse in 2015. It will be the first time in ten years that they’ve performed in our area.
The flying unit, officially known as the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, will perform on August 8 and 9 as a part of the Deke Slayton Airfest.
“The Thunderbirds fly an F-16, which is a single engine jet and a little more agile sometimes than the heavier F-18’s the Blue Angels fly. So you’ll see a little different maneuvers, a little bit tighter, possible, maneuvers, they all have their signature acts and signature maneuvers that they do,” said Ron Schmal, Deke Slayton Airfest President and Director of Airops.
The Thunderbirds come a year after the Blue Angels performed at Airfest.
The Thunderbirds will perform its first public flyover of 2015 at the opening of Super Bowl XLIX in Phoenix, Arizona on February 1.
