Thousands honored in La Crosse for volunteering
Part of National Volunteer Week
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Thousands of community members are being thanked Monday for their volunteer efforts.
UW-La Crosse, Viterbo University, Western Technical College, and Great Rivers United Way honored more than 5,000 volunteers for National Volunteer Week. The week celebrates volunteerism across the country.
Local non-profits say there is a reason Wisconsin residents volunteer so often.
“I think La Crosse in particular is just a very generous community, but statewide I don’t think the rest of the state is very different in that we have that Minnesota nice, or Mid-West nice attitude about us,” said Great Rivers United Way Marketing and Communications Specialist Adrianne Olson.
Wisconsin has the third highest volunteer rate in the country, behind Utah and Minnesota.
