Thompson/Baldwin spar over 9/11, Iran in third debate
MADISON, Wis. — Republican Tommy Thompson says he questions Democrat Tammy Baldwin’s judgment and not her patriotism for voting against a resolution honoring victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Thompson made his comments Friday during the third and final debate before the election for Wisconsin’s open U.S. Senate seat.
Baldwin says she is outraged that Thompson ran a campaign ad this week attacking her vote on the resolution. She says she voted against it because it contained other language supporting Republican policies she opposed.
She voted nine times for similar resolutions honoring the victims.
The two candidates also sparred over Iran. Baldwin questions Thompson’s holding stocks in companies that do business with Iran, while he says it’s wrong for her to take donations from a group that opposes Iranian sanctions.
