West rejects Putin's claim it sabotaged Baltic gas pipelines

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the West of sabotaging the Russia-built gas pipelines under the Baltic Sea to Germany. Putin claimed that the West had turned from sanctions against Russia to “terror attacks,” sabotaging the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines. The White House said Putin's comments were outlandish and just an attempt to distract the world from his annexation on Friday of four parts of Ukraine. President Joe Biden said of Putin: “What he's saying we know is not true.” The comments came ahead of an emergency meeting Friday at the U.N. Security Council in New York. Denmark and Sweden said the blasts, which set off huge methane leaks, probably were due to several hundred pounds of explosives.

Feds offer training to election workers to deal with potential violence at polls

The training includes "non-confrontational techniques" for dealing with angry voters as well as how to determine if an "emergency response" is needed or if law enforcement should be alerted, the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said in an email this week to election industry workers.

Sailor acquitted of setting fire that destroyed massive ship

A Navy judge has ruled a sailor is not guilty of setting a fire that destroyed the USS Bonhomme Richard in San Diego in 2020. Friday's ruling is a blow to the Navy as it faces allegations of improper training and maintenance of the $1.2 billion amphibious assault ship. The 21-year-old sobbed after the verdict and read a brief statement to reporters that he was eager to start his life over. Prosecutors showed no physical evidence at the nine-day trial at Naval Base San Diego, while the defense chipped away at the credibility of a key witness.
