‘Teladoc’ connects Mayo Clinic Health System patients in Onalaska with physicians in Prairie du Chien

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — If you’ve ever gone to urgent care, you know the wait can sometimes be long. Mayo Clinic Health System is using a virtual tool to speed up the process.

When Mayo’s same day clinic in Onalaska is busy, the “Teladoc” allows a physician at another location to do a virtual exam for the patient.

“I didn’t think I would like it at all. I was really hesitant. But, we can do most of what we need for many, many appointments,” Dr. Joel Greenya said.

Leveraging Teladoc, patients connect to a family medicine provider located in Prairie du Chien. This assists in increasing the Onalaska Same Day Clinic access, allows patients to stay in their community for care and promotes flexibility to ensure provider availability across the region is leveraged to its capacity. This service is available to patients that present to the Onalaska Same Day Clinic Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Dr. Greenja says patients can also use “Teladoc” to meet with a specialist who doesn’t travel to their primary health care clinic.
