Homeless shelters see varying need as temperatures start to drop

An overnight shelter for homeless adults says it has been full nearly every day since it opened at the beginning of the month. The La Crosse Warming Center has had to use its overflow space to accommodate the surge of people. 

News 8 Investigates - Salvation Army drops zero tolerance policy

In July 2016, in response to a series of News 8's Investigates reports on the homeless in La Crosse, the Salvation Army told News 8 they were hoping to move away from their zero tolerance policy. They have.The emergency shelter now accepts people who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This change in policy is already making an impact on the community since it began in November 2016.
