SUV falls through ice on Lake Onalaska
Sheriff's Dept.: Driver not seriously injured
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — The driver of an SUV was transported to Gundersen Health System after his vehicle partially fell through the ice on Lake Onalaska Thursday at about 1 p.m.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken off the ice by a four-wheeler with no apparent serious injuries.
The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department said at one point, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife was in route with an airboat and additional personnel, but they were called off after the man was off the ice.
The DNR said the vehicle must be removed within 30 days, according to the sheriff’s department. The SUV is out on the ice near Red Pines Bar and Grill.
Authorities on scene tell News 8 the ice is melting rapidly.
The La Crosse Dive Rescue Team, the Onalaska Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance, and the Fish and Wildlife Service assisted the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Department with this incident.
