‘Support Our Schools’ tour criticizes Gov. Walker’s education spending during stop in La Crosse
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Current and former teachers joined Wisconsin democratic leaders today at the La Crosse Democratic Party Office.
The ‘Support Our Schools’ tour is stopping in school districts it says were forced to go to referendum for operating expenses under Governor Walker. Members say despite Governor Walker putting money into schools this year, homeowners have been forced to increase their property taxes following 7 years of cuts to education.
“We have a history now, not only of Act 10, but we also have nearly 800-million dollars that have been cut from public schools in the state under Walker,” said Professor of Sociology Laurie Cooper Stoll.
In response to the ‘Support Our Schools’ claims, Governor Walker’s office says in part, “Wisconsin is investing more into K-12 education than ever before in actual dollars under Governor Walker, and in his last budget he included $649-million more for our schools.”
