Suicide awareness event in La Crosse going virtual this year

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- Your life Matters. Those three words are more important than ever as more people are struggling with their mental health this year during the pandemic.

The La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative isn’t able to hold its traditional awareness event this year in Riverside Park, instead it’s going virtual.

They’ll be showing off a new bench in the park dedicated to those who’ve died from suicide while also still finding a way to bring awareness to the community that suicide is preventable.

Even during these isolating times for many people, it’s important to know that help is out there.

“Hoping that people are encouraged to still socially connect because that is one of the number of prevention measures for keeping people alive when they’re in distress and thinking about suicide, is having some kind of social contact and support,” said La Crosse Area Suicide Prevention Initiative Board Member Christine Hughes.

You can join in on the virtual event Wednesday, Sept. 16th beginning at 5 p.m. by going to the website and clicking on events.
