“Stuff the Bus” campaign helps kids in La Crosse Co. get much needed school supplies

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A nationwide event is taking place right here in our area.

The ‘Stuff the Bus’ campaign starts up on Friday and goes through the weekend.

It’s an opportunity for community members to help area kids get all set for school.

People can buy school supplies and drop them off at the La Crosse or Onalaska Walmarts.

If you’re not comfortable going out and about or aren’t able to make it over this weekend, there is an online registry you can check out.

Or you can make monetary donations at the Coulee Region Back2School GoFundMe page.

Money is tight for a lot of families right now, which is why this cause makes such a big difference for kids in the Coulee Region.

“If our neighbors can just reach out, maybe buy an extra notebook, a couple of extra pairs of pens and pencils, that goes a long way in helping somebody that maybe doesn’t have the luxury of getting an extra notebook or an extra pen, or anything like that,” said Alex Riley of the La Crosse County Salvation Army.

The Coulee Region Back2School collaborative and the Salvation Army are helping make this campaign possible.

La Crosse County is one of nearly 3,000 similar events taking place across the country.

You can drop items off on Friday, August 7th, Saturday, August 8th, or Sunday, August 9th at the La Crosse or Onalaska Walmarts.
