Mayo Clinic study shows masks are reliable preventing COVID-19 spread
New pre published Research from Mayo Clinic in Rochester is showing the benefits of wearing face masks to reduce the spread of diseases
ROCHESTER, Minn (WKBT) – Researchers in Minnesota want people to wear face coverings. New pre-published Research from Mayo Clinic in Rochester is showing the benefits of wearing face masks to reduce the spread of diseases.
The findings support the effectiveness of widespread mask use. The study was conducted by using mannequin heads, simulating a person with the virus, and testing how many droplets spread when wearing a mask and when not wearing one.
They found wearing a mask greatly reduces the chances of contracting COVID-19
“Masking is simple, but doing it all the time is important, because this is virus that is transmitted predominately through droplets and we are all very susceptible to this because we’ve never been exposed to this type of virus,” said Dr. Elie Berbari who works with Infectious Diseases at Mayo Clinic.
Researchers also found that paper medical masks and two-layer cloth masks are equally effective.
