Students use chalk to promote La Crosse culture

Local artist draws protrait of school principle

One area middle school is promoting La Crosse’s culture through chalk art.

Their drawings are part of Artspire, an upcoming event put on by The La Crosse Arts Initiative . The event will bring together more than 60 area artists. Lincoln Middle School students helped one local artist Wednesday sketch a chalk mural of their principal.  Their playground portrait is one of ten chalk drawings being displayed throughout the city.

For the students the mural is more than just a way to promote an upcoming event.

“It’s kind of bringing out different things you can do with art instead of just drawing. You can make things that are 3D like with chalk and other things, other than just a pencil,” said 8th grade student, Ethan Browning.

Artspire takes place on the 13th and 14th of June.
