Students see government in action on Youth Government Day
American Legion organizes annual government event
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — High school students are getting a better idea of how government works.
Kids from across the area met at the La Crosse County Administrative Center Tuesday morning for “Youth and Government Day.”
They got to hear from local officials and even got to mock-debate a piece of legislation. They also got a tour of the county jail and juvenile detention center.
Melrose-Mindoro junior Sam Higley says the event gives him more insight into the law making and the enforcement process.
“More or less a greater knowledge on how systems like this are run anad how the laws get passed through, or how the law system works,” said Higley.
Youth and Government Day is organized every year by the American Legion.
